Chettinad Power Corp plans 2 x 600 MW in Tarangambadi

Chettiad Power Corp is planning to take up setting up of 660 MW imported Coal Based thermal power plant in Erukkattanchery, Kazhizppanallur and Manichkapangu villages in Tarangambadi Taluk, in Nagapattinam District , in Tamil Nadu. Land requirement will be 332.5 ha, out of which 252.15 ha is single crop agricultural land; 80.35 ha land is waste land. The area was Tsunami affected area and the agricultural land has become saline and no more suitable for cultivation in its present state. Coal requirement will be 3.4 MTPA. Coal will be imported from Indonesia. Coal will be transported through a captive jetty proposed near the power plant site. Water requirement will be 115.8 MCM/annum, which will be obtained from Sea water (Bay of Bengal) through a Pipeline over a distance of 1.25 Km from the project site. A desalination plant of 12 MLD is proposed to be set up. Closed cycle system with natural draft cooling tower is proposed. High concentration slurry disposal system is proposed. The treated waste water will be used in ash handling plant.

Coastal Energen to set up 1200 MW Tuticorin project

Coastal Energen Pvt Ltd is setting up a 2x600 MW coal based thermal power project in Mutiara in Tuticorin district in Tamil Nadu. The project site is situated 13 kms away from Tuticorin town and 21 kms from port. The company had awarded the EPC contract for boilers and turbines to Harbin a China based company and the project is likely to go operational in 2013. The project cost was estimated at Rs. 54000 million and 16 Indian banks have funded the project. Coal supply had been assured from Indonesia and the project also will use desalinated water.

Coromandel Electric Co to set up 131.82 MW gas project in Ramnathapuram

Coromandel Electric Co (India Cements Group) is planning to set up a 131.82 MW gas based project in Valantharavi village in Ramnathapuram Taluk in Tamil Nadu. Currently, the company has a 17.46 MW and a 8.3 MW gas turbine in operation at the plant. Land required for the project is 9.12 acres which is under possession. The project has received environmental clearance in August 2011.
