Karnataka Power Corp plans 2100 MW gas based thermal project in Bidadi

Karnataka Power Corpn. Ltd is planning to set up a 2100 MW (3 x 700 MW) gas based thermal power project in phases of 4x350 MW. The company had invited bids in August 2010 and Evaluation of bids has been going on. GAIL will lay pipeline from LNG terminal in Dhabol to Bidadi. The State Government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the GAIL regarding the supply of gas. The laying of the pipeline will be completed by March 2012 and the power plant first unit ( 700 MW) is also likely to commence generation in 2012. The project was announced in March 2003 and it will entail an outlay of Rs.5,600 crore (cost of 1 MW being equal to Rs.4 crore). The State Government approval was received in April 2010 and an environmental clearance was received in May 2006. It will be set up 500 metres from Mysore Road in Harohalli, Bidadi, Bangalore in Karnataka. Ernst & Young is the consultant for the project.

The project will proceed with phase I of 700 MW and will scale up later depending upon the international gas prices.

KPCL to consider 600 MW super critical thermal plant at Raichur

KPCL Raichur plant has completed 25 years and is facing frequent shutdowns. It is generating 230 MW at far below its capacity of 430 MW. Now, to renovate them would need an investment of Rs. 4000 million. KPCL has asked BHEL to study the power plant and it has suggested a 600 MW with clean super critical technology with an investment of Rs. 30000 million. KPCL is considering both the options

Luxor Energy to set up 2x660 MW coal based project

Luxor Energy is setting up 2X660 MW Super Critical Coal Based Thermal Power Plant near village Mulwad, in Basavana Bagewadi Taluk, in Bijapur District , in Karnataka. Land identified is in KIADB Industrial area. Land requirement will be 900 acres, out of which 215 acres is single crop agricultural land and 700 acres is others land. The land requirement of 900 acres includes the ash dyke area of 234 acres. Coal requirements will be 6.93 MTPA. Coal will be obtained from domestic coal block and imported coal block in a ratio of 70:30 respectively. Ash pond/dyke area will be 234 acres. Water requirement will be 4430 cum/hr, which will be sourced from Almati Reservoir.

The company has invited international competitive bids in December 2011 for awarding the BTG package. Fichtner Consulting Engineers have been retained as the consultant for the power project.
