Torrent power Ltd., a private power company and Gujarat Power Corporation Ltd. (GPCL), the nodal agency of the state government, has signed a shareholder agreement (SHA) for the development of a 1000 MW plus coal based power plant at Amreli. The project, according to its proponents, is expected to garner Rs 4500 crore in investment, and will supply power to the state itself. Further, GPCL has already acquired about 267.38 hectares of private and 40.31 hectares of government land. Clearances such as permission to draw sea water, clearance from Airport Authority of India have also been obtained by GPCL. It may be noted that MoU for this project was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit 2007.
The project involves setting up of 2×660 MW Super Critical Coal Based Thermal Power Plant at villages Jamasara, Raison, Baghwamau and Gangau, in Sandila Taluk, in Hardoi Distt., in Uttar Pradesh. Land requirement will be 1331.68 acres. Coal requirements will be 7.8 MTPA. Coal will be domestic. Water requirement will be about 35.966 MCM/annum, which will be sourced from the Sharda Sahayak Water Canal through a pipeline.
