GIPCL plans second phase 600 MW Surat Lignite plant

Gujarat Industries Power Corporation Ltd (GIPCL) is planning to set up a 600 MW lignite based thermal unit as phase II expansion of Surat Lignite plant. It will deploy eco-friendly circulating fluidised bed combustion (CFBC) technology. The project cost is estimated at Rs.30,000 million and another Rs.2450 million to expand its mining operations. It will sell the power to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), the State's transmission and distribution company, through a power purchase agreement (PPA). The required coal for the project will be received from Mangrol which has mineable reserves of 211.14 million tonnes of lignite coal.
