APGENCO to commission 500 MW unit at Viajayawada Thermal Power station

APGENCO is all set to commission its 500 MW thermal unit at its Vijayawada TPS by May 2009. The plant was set up with investment of Rs.21000 million with financial assistance from Rural Electrification Corp and consortium of other Indian banks. This unit does not use super critical technology. BHEL and BGR were the vendors for the project and coal linkage is from Mahanadi Coal fields and water from the near Krishna river. It may be noted, APGENCO is also planning to set up coal gasification combined gas cycle project, a first-of-kind in the country.
