Pioneer Gas Power, belonging to the Pioneer Distilleries is planning to set up a 400 MW gas based combined cycle power plant at Bhagad in Mangaon Tehsil in Raigad district of Maharashtra. The company has invited international competitive bids to select the EPC contractor and may be announced in January 2011.

NHDC to set up 1,320-Mw Shahpura thermal power project

Narmada Hydro Development Corp, a joint-venture company of NHPC and government of Madhya Pradesh has been handed over the 1320 MW coal based power project in Shahpura. It will be a super critical thermal project and is likely to be a 660x2 units or expanded to 800x2 units. It may be noted, NHDC is also setting up a 1320 MW thermal power project in Rewa in Khandwa district of the state. Both the projects are yet to coal linkage and other statutory clearances. Earlier the state government has approached to NTPC to develop the project but NTPC has not shown interest.

Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction, a Korea based power equipment company is planning to venture into India by setting up a manufacturing facility. Indian power sector is booming and there is heavy demand for power plant equipment. Many power projects are delayed on account of plant and equipment. On account of this India has to import equipment from China. Recently, many international majors like Mitsubishi, Ansaldo, Alstom and Toshiba has tied up with local partners to set up manufacturing facilities here. It may be noted, Doosan has won a equipment contract for the 1370 Raipur coal based thermal project from GMR group.

Bajaj Hindusthan plans 1980 MW thermal unit at Mirchwara in Lalitpur

Bajaj Hindustan is planning to set up a 1980 MW coal based thermal power generation unit in Mirchwara village near Rajghat dam in Lalitpur of Uttar Pradesh. The project was initially proposed to NTPC by the state government is now handed over to Bajaj Hindustan under the MoU route. The state government will provide 150 acres land and water (to be supplied from Rajghat dam through pipelines) and Bajaj Hindustan will sell 90% of power generated to state at the rates approved by the state regulatory authority.
