Neyveli Lignite Corp to set up 1000 MW thermal project at Neyveli

Neyveli Lignite Corp to set up 1000 MW thermal project at Neyveli in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. The company has a plan to phase out 600 MW capacity units (6x50 MW + 3x100 MW) in due course. The land requirement of the project is 170 ha. No additional ash dyke will be created as part of this project. The existing ash dyke and the abandoned ash dyke will be used for this project. The land is under possession of the company and no additional land would be acquired. Water requirement is 4,000 m3/hr, which will be met from groundwater pumped from the mine. The lignite to be used will have ash content upto 9% and sulphur content upto 1%.

NLC lays foundation stone for 1000 MW project in Tuticorin

NLC Tamil Nadu Power Ltd, a joint-venture between NLC and TNEB laid a foundation stone to kick-start 1000 MW thermal power project in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. The project cost of Rs. 49100 million will be funded by a debt-equity ratio of 70:30. The entire debt portion Rs.39470 million of the project will be funded by Rural Electrification Corp. EPC contract worth Rs.31960 million of boiler, turbine and generator had been awarded to BHEL. The project also includes two-cooling towers, desalination plant, gas-insulated switch gear of 400 kva capacity.

Mettur and North Chennai power projects will ease TN power situation


TNEB is all set to add 4300 MW by setting up various power projects  along with TNEB. Four upcoming projects will add 1488 MW by February next year will somewhat ease the power situation. Two thermal power plant ( 2 x 600 MW) will come up in north Chennai at an investment of Rs. 58130 million. The contracts for the project was awarded to BHEL in January 2008. Another 600 MW power plant is coming up in Mettur and the contract for the same had been awarded to BGR Energy Systems.  NTPC and TNEB are jointly setting up a 2 x 500 MW plant at Vallur in Thiruvallur district, 50 kms near east of Chennai.
