REC, NTECL plans phase II of Vallur thermal unit

Rural Electrification Corp and NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy Corp Ltd (NTCEL a joint-venture between NTPC and TNEB) is planning to invest Rs. 37964 million to set up a 500 MW plant at Vallur near Ennore in Tamil Nadu. The unit is expected to commence operations by November 2012

ETA Power to set up 1320 MW thermal unit at Nagapattinam

ETA Power Generation, a part of ETA Ascon Star group is in the process of acquiring 500 acres of land at Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu for setting up a 2x660 MW thermal unit. The company is planning to procure coal for unit from Indonesia and the same will be handled at Nagapattinam port. The project is likely to be completed by 2014. The company also has plans to add 2000 MW every year in the east coasts

SPIC revives Tuticorin Power project

SPIC Electric Power Pvt Ltd (a subsidiary of TPL (SPIC group)) has planned a power plant at Tuticorin in 1995 but has been shelved because of dispute over land. Now, the company has located another attractive site has applied for coastal clearance and environmental clearance. Soil investigation and tests have also been completed. The new site has been approved by TNEB, CEA and Tuticorin Port Trust. A detailed project report is underway and we can see progress in the coming months.
