NTPC is planning to set up 2 x 800 MW super thermal power project in Darlipali in Suratgarh district of Orissa. The project has achieved fuel linkage and a PPA had been signed with Gridco of Orissa for off take of power. In May 2011, the company has invited bids for site levelling work through Gammon India Ltd.

Application for land acquisition submitted GoO have intimated that water can be provided from Hirakund Reservoir. Notification under Section 6 (of the Land Acquisition Act) has been issued for 1652 acres in March 2012 Coal linkage is assured from Dulunga coal block of Mahanadi Coal Fields, which has a capacity of 7 million tpa.
Orissa Integrated Power, a subsidiary of Power Finance Corp is set to open bids in August 2011 to select the operator the 4000 MW Bhedbahal Ultra Mega Power Projects. The project is to be located in Bhedbahal village in Sundergarh district of Orissa and coal for the pit head project will be from Ib Valley coal fields which 30-40 kms away from the site. The preliminary bids are opened in August 2011, where the final operator will be selected from over 20 participants like L&T, NTPC, GVK Energy Ventures, Jindal Group, Essar Group etc.,
Sri Ramakrishna Power Pvt Ltd is planning to set up a 2x60 MW coal based thermal power project in Ramachandrapur village in Chattrapur Mandal in Ganjam district in Orissa. Land acquisition have been completed. It has appointed by Fitchner Consulting for project management and as detailed engineering consultant.
The project has achieved environmental clearance.
