NTPC to set up 2x500 MW Mauda Thermal Power Project in Nagpur district of Maharashtra. The land requirement for the project is 1440 acres, which includes 600 acres for ash pond. tpe The water requirement is estimated as 39.36 cusecs, which will be sourced from Goshikhurd dam on river Wainganga. The coal requirement is estimated as 6.06 million TPA, which will be obtained from Ib-Valley. The coal will be transported through rail. The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 48274 million.

Gopani Iron & Power to set up 15 MW Captive Power Project at District Chandrapur

Gopani Iron & Power to set up 15 MW Captive Power Project from waste heat recovery at District Chandrapur. The steam will be produced from waste gases generated from process of sponge iron manufacturing using Waste Heat Recovery Boiler (WHRB). AFBC boilers will be installed. Coal consumption will be 25060 MT/year, which will be met through e-auctioning from Coal India Ltd. The water requirement will be 2298 m3/day and will be met from MIDC water supply. The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 800 million.

Vidarbha Industries Power to set up 300 MW (2x150 MW) Group Captive Thermal Power Project at Butibori in Nagpur district of Maharashtra. The land requirement is 305 acres, which includes 66 acres for greenbelt and 80 acres for rail corridor. Coal requirement is 1.98 million TPA, which will be sourced from WCL and will be transported by rail. The water requirement is 25.5 mld which will be supplied by MIDC from Vadgaon Dam on Lower Vena river. The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 12230 million. The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract was awarded to Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. And the Boiler Turbine Generator (BTG) contract was awarded to Shanghai Electric Co. The project has achieved financial closure with a consortium of banks led by Axis Bank in July 2009. The project is currently in the construction phase and is expected to be commissioned by March 2012. The plant is located in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The project is being implemented by Vidarbha Industries Power Limited (VIPL) a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) a subsidiary of Reliance Power. The first phase, 300 MW, of the project has being designed on a group captive basis. Of the total power generated by the first phase 51% of the power will be supplied to the industrial consumers, which would ensure a continuous and a sustained demand for the power generated form the plant. The remaining power from the project would be sold on through short or medium term contracts. The foundation stone for the project was laid in February 2009 and construction activities further picked up pace after the project achieved financial closure in July 2009. The construction activities are going on full swing presently and it is expected that the project would start generating power in the year 2012. The project would entail an investment of over Rs. 3,600 cr. The Boiler, Turbine and Generator (BTG) which are main plant equipment for the power plant are being sourced from Shanghai Electric Corporation, China. The project would be using coal as the primary fuel which would be supplied by Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) and would be transported by the Railways. The water requirements for the power plant have been allocated from Vadgaon Dam on the Vena River in the Nagpur District. The evacuation of the power from the project would be through the transmission networks of Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company.
