Central Railways is planning to revive its old power plant in Thakurli in Mumbai in Maharashtra. It plans to set up a 700 MW gas based power project in the premises. The project was announced in the FY2011-12 Railways budget. It may be noted, the Thakurli plant was commissioned in 1920 and later decommissioned in 1980 when a mishap happened.
The project will make progress when gas is made available at an economic cost.
DMICDC Bhagad Power Co. Ltd is planning to take up setting up of 1300 MW Natural Gas Based Combined Cycle Power Plant at notified industrial area of MIDC at Ville Bhagad, in Mangaon Taluk, in Raigad District , in Maharastra. Land requirement will be 159 acres. Water requirement will be 33.325 MLD and will be sourced from the Kundalika River from an intake well through a pipeline at a distance of 6.0 km from project site. Water allocation for 35 MLD has been obtained from MIDC from its reserved quota of water allocated by State Irrigation Dept. Induced draft cooling system will be adopted.

The project is yet to get statutory clearances.
Hari Hareshwar Power Co, a joint venture between Mumbai based Estinta Energy and Genting Group of Malaysis is planning to set up a 1600 MW coal based thermal power project in Veshvi village inRatnagiri district Maharashtra. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 85,000 million.
The project has been facing protest from farmers of Ratnagiri district who fear -their famous mango cultivation and their livelihood is under threat.
